This self-paced e-learning 6h course course, entitled "Telehealth and Telecare in cancer: Empowering and upskilling healthcare professionals towards best practices" is designed as part of the eCAN Joint Action programme to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of healthcare professionals in navigating the evolving landscape of digital healthcare.

The course scientific director is the Lab of Medical Physics and Digital Innovation, School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

This self-paced e-learning 6-hour course, entitled «Telehealth and Telecare in Cancer: Empowering and Upskilling Healthcare Professionals Towards Best Practices», is designed as part of the eCAN Joint Action programme to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of healthcare professionals in navigating the evolving landscape of digital healthcare. It is a free, online, self-paced course, but no certification will be provided upon completion.

As telehealth and telecare become increasingly integral to healthcare, especially during the COVID-19 era, this course aims to bridge the gap between traditional healthcare settings and remote medical support. The goal is to ensure participants are well-prepared to utilize these technologies effectively, with a focus on cancer care.
 

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of telehealth tools, platforms, and best practices for managing cancer care remotely. The course will cover critical topics such as virtual consultations, remote monitoring, and the use of telecare devices. By integrating interactive sessions with theoretical knowledge, the curriculum equips healthcare professionals to take a proactive role in their health management and equips caregivers with the skills necessary to use telehealth solutions and increase their empowerment towards relevant contexts. Through real-life case studies and hands-on modules, this course ensures that healthcare professionals can confidently engage with telemedicine technologies, enhancing their trust in remote care and improving patient outcomes. Although the primary focus is on cancer care, the principles and skills taught are applicable to anyone interested in leveraging telehealth and telecare for improved healthcare management.

The Joint Action ‘Strengthening eHealth including telemedicine and remote monitoring for health care systems for CANcer prevention and care’ (eCAN JA) is designed to extend the benefits of eHealth across EU Member States, focusing on cancer prevention and care. This course brings together professionals from various fields to explore the efficacy of telehealth and telemedicine across different cancer populations in 10 European countries.

Metodología

Structure: The course is divided into five comprehensive modules:

  • Module 1-4: Each module includes:
    • A detailed presentation in PDF format. Supplementary reading materials also in PDF format.
    • A final test to assess your understanding of the module’s content. For each of these modules, you will have two attempts to complete the final test with a score of at least 70% to pass. These tests are essential to evaluate your progress and ensure mastery of the material.
  • Module 5: The final module includes a simple task—just click the link provided to complete an online survey, which will help us improve the course based on your feedback.

Module 1: Introduction to Telemedicine/Telecare

Objectives:

    • Understand the basics of telemedicine/telecare.
    • Learn the benefits and challenges of telemedicine/telecare.

Module 2: Enhancing Trust in Telemedicine

Objectives:

    • Identify key factors that build trust in telemedicine.
    • Learn strategies to enhance trust between patients and healthcare providers.
    • Understand the role of communication in building trust.

 

Module 3: Telemedicine Skills for Healthcare Professionals

Objectives:

    • Equip patients and caregivers with necessary skills to use telemedicine platforms.
    • Provide guidelines on how to prepare for a telemedicine appointment.
    •  Demonstrate common telemedicine tools and technologies.

 

Module 4: Training for Healthcare Professionals

Objectives:

    • Develop skills in delivering effective telemedicine consultations.
    • Learn best practices for telemedicine etiquette and communication.
    • Understand the importance of privacy and security in telemedicine.
